Fort Erie, Niagara Region

Looking to buy or sell in Fort Erie?

I’m a Niagara REALTOR® with eXp Realty, and Fort Erie is one of the eight communities I work in across the Niagara Region. Here’s how the town is put together, what living on Lake Erie involves, what the market’s doing region-wide, and how I help you buy or sell.

Living in Fort Erie

Fort Erie sits on the Lake Erie shore, with Niagara Falls and Port Colborne as its neighbouring municipalities (Statistics Canada, 2021 Census, Fort Erie). At the 2021 Census it had 32,901 people, up 7.1 per cent from 2016, in 14,081 occupied private dwellings, up 6.8 per cent. Its land area is 166.24 square kilometres, which works out to 197.9 people per square kilometre.

Put plainly, that’s more people than Grimsby or Lincoln, spread over more land than either of them. The town’s own libraries, arenas and beach are spread across several communities that share one council, and which of them you buy in will shape your week more than the name Fort Erie will.

The places inside Fort Erie

Six numbered wards, and the names people actually use

The town elects a mayor and one councillor from each of Wards 1 to 6, plus a regional councillor (Town of Fort Erie, Mayor and Council). The wards are numbered, so they won’t tell you much about a street on their own.

The names locals use show up all over the town’s own pages. The library has three branches: Centennial at 136 Gilmore Road in Fort Erie, Crystal Ridge at 89 Ridge Road South in Ridgeway, and Stevensville at 2508 Stevensville Road (Town of Fort Erie, libraries). The Leisureplex at 3 Municipal Centre Drive has two pads, Kinsmen and Jaycee, and the Crystal Ridge Arena in Ridgeway shares its parking lot with the library (Town of Fort Erie, arenas). The Route 751 bus runs out to Bridgeburg, and Bay Beach is in Crystal Beach. I haven’t found an official neighbourhood map with borders on the town’s site, so I won’t pretend to have one for you.

Lake Erie, close up

Bay Beach and Point Abino

Bay Beach, which the town says is also known as Crystal Beach, is at 4155 Erie Road on the shore of Lake Erie (Town of Fort Erie, Bay Beach). If you’re thinking of buying near it, know how it works now. For 2026 the town requires one of three passes to get on the beach, including a resident pass, with capacity limits in effect and free public admission only in the early morning and the evening. That’s a set of rules that changes season to season, so check the current one rather than relying on mine.

On the same lake, the Point Abino Lighthouse was built in 1917 on the rocky north shore of Lake Erie, and it’s now a National Historic Site (Town of Fort Erie, Point Abino Lighthouse). The town’s heritage list also includes Old Fort Erie, the Ridgeway Battlefield Site and the Fort Erie Historical Museum (Town of Fort Erie, heritage sites). If old houses and history are part of why you’re looking here, that list is a good weekend.

Getting around

A community bus, and no GO station

Transit here is run by Niagara Region Transit. The Route 751 Fort Erie Community Bus runs hourly between Fort Erie Town Hall and Bridgeburg, Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., and interlines with Route 22 toward Niagara Falls. Outside that route, Niagara Transit Plus offers on-demand shared rides (Town of Fort Erie, transit).

There’s no GO station in town. Niagara Region’s GO train page lists Niagara Falls and St. Catharines, the planned Grimsby station and a future one in Beamsville (Niagara Region, GO trains in Niagara). If you need the train, the Niagara Falls page has the details of the station there.

What the market is doing

Regional figures, because there aren’t any town ones

In August 2026 the MLS Home Price Index composite benchmark for the Niagara Association of REALTORS® board was $569,800, down 6.2 per cent year over year, on 522 sales, with 3,130 active listings at the end of the month and six months of inventory (CREA, board statistics, August 2026). In Q2 2026, the most recent published quarter, the median days on market was 26 for a single detached home, 35 for a townhouse and 42 for an apartment (CREA, MLS market conditions).

Fort Erie is one of the communities that board serves, but those are board-wide numbers. Nothing official publishes a benchmark price or days on market for Fort Erie alone. A house a few streets from Bay Beach and one near the Leisureplex aren’t the same purchase, and one regional number can’t price both, so I’d rather pull the actual sales near the address you’re considering.

How I help

Buying in Fort Erie, we start with what you can carry once closing costs are counted, then work out which part of town fits how you live. If you’re looking near the water, ask early about insurance and what the inspection should cover. I’ll sometimes guide you away from a home when I don’t believe it truly fits your lifestyle or long-term goals. The buying page has the whole process.

Selling in Fort Erie, the price comes from the sales around you rather than from a regional average. Ask for a valuation on the home value page, or read how I prepare and market a listing on the selling page.

If you’re comparing Fort Erie with its neighbours, the Niagara Falls page and the Welland page are worth reading too. The areas page has the rest of the region.

Let’s turn “I’m just looking” into a real plan. Get in touch and tell me what you’re thinking.

Questions I get about Fort Erie

Is there a GO train in Fort Erie?

Niagara Region’s GO train page lists Niagara Falls and St. Catharines, the planned Grimsby station and a future one in Beamsville, and nothing in Fort Erie. Locally, the Route 751 community bus links up with Route 22 toward Niagara Falls. Check the current schedules before you plan a commute around them.

Do I need a pass to use Bay Beach in Crystal Beach?

For the 2026 season, yes. The town requires one of three Bay Beach passes, one of them a resident pass, and capacity limits apply. Free public admission runs in the early morning and the evening. The rules are set season by season, so check the current year’s before you count on them.

What is the average house price in Fort Erie?

There isn’t an official town-level figure. Fort Erie is one of the communities the Niagara Association of REALTORS® serves, and that board publishes at board level: the benchmark was $569,800 in August 2026. Any Fort Erie-only average comes from a private data aggregator rather than an official source.

What are the communities in Fort Erie?

The town elects its council from six numbered wards. The place names people use, including Crystal Beach, Ridgeway, Stevensville and Bridgeburg, all appear on the town’s own pages, but I haven’t found an official neighbourhood map with borders. I’d rather drive you through them than draw one.

Can we work together in Spanish or French?

Yes. I hold full client conversations in English, Spanish and French. If part of your family is more comfortable in one language, we can switch whenever it helps.
